Working with Facilities Maintenance and a great crew of volunteers from Free the Planet [http://www.grinnell.edu/student/groups/ftp/], we have replaced almost every incandescent bulb in Burling Library with Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs). Fluorescent lamps are much more energy-efficient than the older incandescent bulbs and last longer, too. The Libraries already have a strong recycling program (all the packaging from the new lamps has been recycled or reused, of course), and we’re pleased to add the CFL replacements to our list of environmental initiatives.
